Third Thursday Report
It's first 6 months.
Well, it’s been just over six months now since our Reverend Sharon founded the ‘Third Thursday’ gathering for feeding body and soul which is also dementia friendly, a passion very close to Sharon’s own heart. Together, Sharon and Hannah have devised a truly lovely afternoon, beginning with a shorter version of the church service (approx. 30 minutes) where all are welcome, especially individuals living with dementia.
The turnout has doubled in size since it first began, and it is a real pleasure to see the very people that the service was created for, not only being able to enjoy and express worship freely in their own way, but also be able, and willing, to participate in the service either as readers or acolytes.
After the service, Grace is said before all adjourn to the tea party with a lovely selection of sandwiches and, yes, you’ve guessed it—cakes, cakes and even more CAKES, yum, yum! And should provisions allow, you even get to go home with a doggy bag for later.
It seems to be a great success, not only for the aforementioned reasons, but also because new friendships are being formed, which at the end of the day is what it is all about: friendship, love, and understanding, etc.
So with one step at a time and everyone working and pulling together we can take the lead and make a significant difference to the community of Burnham, and in doing so also raise the name of our Lord Jesus up high, where He so deservedly belongs!
